The Historic Brownsville Museum, opened in 1986, houses a variety of exhibits that interpret events from Brownsville's past. These exhibits include data from the earliest military fort in our area, the arrival of French teaching nuns and displays of agricultural and ranching tools.

The museum is located in the old Southern Pacific Railroad Depot. Built in 1928, the building is a magnificent example of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. A Texas Historical Marker and a listing on the National Register of Historic Places have been awarded to the building.

Located at the front entrance, the Gift Shop carries books about Brownsville's past and present. These include Brownsville, A Pictorial History by local authors Ruby A. Wooldridge and Robert B. Vezzetti; The Twin Cities; and Historic Brownsville: Original Townsite Guide.

In addition to our large selection of books, the Gift Shop sells train whistles in 3 sizes, mugs, pencils, locomotive-shaped pens, t-shirts, and many other items.

Come visit the Gift Shop and take home a remembrance of your visit.
