Sabal Palm Audubon Center and Sanctuary is nestled six miles in the lush, southeastern part of Brownsville with a Texas Ebony jungle as well as mature Texas Sabal Palms so tall and thick they cover an area with a shaded canopy unlike anything you've seen. Located on the north bank of the Rio Grande, this 527-acre sanctuary preserves the largest remaining stand of Texas Sabal Palm forest in the United States, and it harbors one of the most beautiful and critical ecosystems of South Texas.

This sanctuary is owned and operated by the National Audubon Society. If you look closely, you may get a chance to see the beautiful turquoise and black speckled racer snake near the resaca. Sabal Palm Sanctuary is peaceful and idea for birding and relaxing. Look for the Buff-bellied hummingbird, Hood oriole, Green kingfisher, and more along the winding nature trails.
